Torah reading:
The reading of the Torah is done by the use of TROPE which is a set of special markings that indicate the correct pronunciation, accent, and melody to be applied to each word of the Torah. The Torah scroll is hand written upon parchment where the letters appear without vowels, or Trope markings. Therefore; in order to read from the Torah scroll one must memorize the vowels and Trope markings. The learning of Torah reading is done from a book called TIKUN where the text appears both with vowels and Trope, as well as without vowels and Trope. On the other hand, the reading of the Haftara does not require reading from a parchment scroll and can be read from a book having vowels and Trope markings printed with the text. Therefore; it is much easier to learn the reading of the Haftara as it does not necessitate memorization.
